ARTIST STATEMENT
Superior Mirage is a project based on fashion design, photography, contemporary illustration, other passions & obsessions.

Lately, the brand explores the intersection of visual art and wearable design, specifically focusing on the transfer of digital artworks to silk and cotton blend, in large-scale formats, allowing each piece to be worn in multiple ways—as a neck scarf, a swimsuit cover-up, or a beach-to-dinner dress.

THE COLLECTION ‘’REFRACTIONS’’
These pieces form a limited-edition collection titled Refractions, inspired by the natural optical phenomenon known as the ‘Superior Mirage’.

The artworks have an abstract and metaphysical form, but in essence they are distorted objects on the horizon, islands, cliffs, ships or icebergs, which appear composite, due to the temperature difference of air masses which is responsible for the creation of the phenomenon.

Each creation bears the name of a sea, ocean, or river from across the world and is accompanied by a description that reflects the essence of this elusive visual occurrence, creating a unique narrative for every design.

Illusion, optical illusion, vision and the limits of our sensory perception are the axes around which the narrative of the illustrations revolves.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
At the heart of these wearable artworks lies a conscious departure from the philosophy of patterns. Rather than embracing repetition, structure, or symmetry, they invite openness, intuition, and emotional resonance, leaving room for the viewer’s imagination to roam freely.

The character of each piece is timeless, seasonless, and genderless, transcending conventions and celebrating freedom of expression through form, movement, and image.

Eleanna Malapani is the founder of Superior Mirage. She is a licensed Architect Engineer and a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), currently based in Messinia, Greece. Her work spans architectural design, renovations, and spatial compositions, blending functionality with emotional resonance and aesthetic depth.
